Jennifer Love Hewitt stopped by “The Talk” earlier today to promote the new season of “Criminal Minds.” Unfortunately I only have 2 short clips for you guys, but hopefully the full interview pops up soon. In the first clip, she talks about being a mother to her ten month old daughter and why she named her Autumn. In the second, she discusses joining the cast of “Criminal Minds” and tonight’s season premiere. Hewitt says about playing an FBI agent, “I really love it. There are challenges because I have to wear the FBI vest and I’m still breastfeeding…that’s been interesting, but it’s been fun. I’ve never gotten to anything like that before.” Enjoy and don’t forget to check out the season premiere tonight at 9:00PM on CBS!

“Criminal Minds” executive producer, Erica Messer, sat down with TV Fanatic to chat about the upcoming season of the series. TV Fanatic asked a few question about Jennifer Love Hewitt, as well as her character. You can check out the snippet below. They also talked more about the new cases, the 200th episode, and more. You can click the link after the article to view the rest of the interview.
We’ve been through this before, right?
New season of a long running show is about to kick off, but the new face to the show is a very familiar one to TV viewers. For Criminal Minds Season 10 it’s Jennifer Love Hewitt (Party of Five, Ghost Whisperer), as she joins the cast as Kate Callahan.
Executive Producer Erica Messer told me yesterday that she and her writers had Callahan start off on the right foot with the group from the start, explaining why in the exclusive interview below.
Also, we talked about personal stories to come and, this being Criminal Minds, some of the cases that just may have you looking away from your TV at times…
TV Fanatic: I really like how you integrated Jennifer Love Hewitt into the show in this premiere. She seems to get along with everybody pretty quick but was that your design or was that more organic just because of who Jennifer is?
Erica Messer: I think it’s a combination of both. She’s so lovely it’s hard to not like her and then it feels like it would be playing something really false to have any kind of conflict there and also it’s a little bit of a learning curve when we introduced Blake back in season 8 [and] there was a little bit of internal conflict.
The very nature of somebody new coming into our family and having a little bit of conflict with somebody was not really embraced by the audience and my fear with that was it kind of stuck with her longer than intended. It was actually just meant to bring another layer and a shade to it but instead I felt like it sort of had people not excited about her character and I certainly didn’t want to do that again. So this was a little combination of learning from the past but also just also the nature of who Love Hewitt is. She’s lovely on screen and off and the team, you know it seems only right for them to connect with her on the great and they certainly are connecting with her on the great.
TVF: That said, did you go about making sure that Kate Callahan was a little different than what we’ve seen in the past with other characters?
EM: Yeah, at this point we’ve had the show for so long and the audience definitely wants to come back and watch the team that they’ve known and loved for so long. So if we’re going to bring somebody new into that family the idea was they have to have a little bit of a different voice and a different skill set because they’re coming into a very established world…what I did with it was give her the background of going undercover and having to interact with bad guys on a long term basis and that’s something right off the bat that our team doesn’t have to do.
They go in every week and they find the bad guy and they bring him to justice weekly and the idea is there’s a whole other group at the FBI that doesn’t have that and I don’t know if the grass is greener there or not because what they have to do is dive in, sometimes for months, to really lure in these bad guys and it felt like why not have her character know the world, be familiar with the worst of the worst but she’s just had to deal with it in a completely different way and she pretty much says that to Hotch in their first interaction. “You find a bad guy every week. How do you not take that home with you?”
TVF: Would you say at least in the first episodes with her, is that her learning curve? How to shake it off when she’s doing this in a much faster pace than what she’s used to?
EM: It will sort of culminate by the end of the season. You’ll get the idea that it’s easier said than done to just let something go and Hotch gives you that look at the end of the premiere that he’s not letting it go either. So it’s not something that we will touch base with throughout the episodes but sort of the feeling of season 10 will be they don’t all let things go.
Get ready to meet the newest member of the BAU when Criminal Minds debuts its 10th season.
Ghost Whisperer alum Jennifer Love Hewitt is returning to CBS this fall as FBI Agent Kate Callahan, who will gladly fill the void at the BAU after Blake’s (Jeanne Tripplehorn) sudden exit in the season finale. The team will welcome her with open arms after spending the summer down a man, so to speak. How will she fit in? And what made Hewitt return to broadcast television? EW caught up with the actress to get the scoop.
EW: How did you joining Criminal Minds come together?
I had been on a break for a bit being a mommy. They were looking to add a new cast member and obviously I spent some time at CBS before, doing Ghost Whisperer. Honestly, I had always wondered and been waiting to find the perfect way to get back. My first CBS experience was so awesome. They’re great, and Les [Moonves] has been great to me. I was really excited when they called and asked to take a meeting. I met with [showrunner] Erica [Messer], who I’ve known since I was 14 from Party of Five. I hadn’t seen her in a really long time, so it was great to catch up with her. It all fit and the timing was perfect.
Tell us about Kate Callahan.
Kate is a really interesting woman. She comes to the BAU with her own experience, which I like. I wasn’t quite sure at first if I was going to be a newbie who hadn’t done this before. When they told me about her, I was really excited that she comes with her own background and talent. She had met the BAU team before in an interesting way, which they talk about in my first episode. It’s fun how they’ve all run into each other one other time before Kate gets added to the team. She has a lot of gumption. She’s very feisty. If she’s afraid of a bad guy, she doesn’t show it. She enjoys her job. She really enjoys understanding these people better and getting them put away.
It seems like she fits into the team very well. Is there anyone she doesn’t get along with?
No, pretty much just the bad guy. She has a rapport with everybody on the team. There isn’t a lot of awkwardness with Kate and these characters. She comes in and they remember her very quickly and they get to work. She has a big first day with this team on the job. It’s fun that way. Kate loves really good people in a very sarcastic, feisty way. She has a lot of respect for her comrades and the people she works with. She’s excited to be part of the team.
She’ll be paired up with Rossi (Joe Mantegna) a lot early on. How do they work together?
In the beginning, Rossi is who she’s with the most. I’d say Rossi and Hotch (Thomas Gibson) really are the people she’s with. I always say she’s like the Barney Fife to Hotch’s Andy. She gets really excited to go where he tells her to and be at his side in that way. She and Rossi have a really sweet connection. They have a lot of respect for each other and really enjoy working side by side. I’ve gotten to do a little bit of stuff with Morgan (Shemar Moore) recently, which has been fun. I obviously work with everybody, but those three characters in particular seem to be where I am. Hotch and Rossi are the first two to know Kate’s background story, so they’re very kind to her and supportive of her own personal life story.
Can you say anything about her backstory?
You will get to know it pretty quickly into the season. It’s not like a cliffhanger or anything, but it explains a lot about what some of her triggers will be, why she’s so willing to be feisty and finds real disgust in these people that she has to deal with on a daily basis.
She starts out undercover in the premiere. Is that an expertise she’ll bring to the team more this season?
I hope so. We haven’t done it again yet, but it’s only the beginning of the season. I really had fun with the undercover part of it in the beginning. I’m hoping it’s something she’ll get to use because it is different.
How is this character different from the roles you’ve played in the past?
For me, it’s completely different. Coming off of [The Client List], which was so incredibly different, they couldn’t be more different characters. For [Ghost Whisperer’s] Melinda, there wasn’t a bad guy. Melinda really came up against a lot of super scary people in a totally different way than Kate does. Kate comes up against real life, scary, creepy bad guys. For Melinda, most of the time those people ended up being dead and she was able to find empathy for them. Kate has absolutely no sensitivity for these people just because she believes in the right in people, doing things the right way and not hurting other people. Melinda could understand why these people could do these things and she had to understand in order to get these people to the light. It’s fun, I obviously dress much different on this show than I have in the things that I’ve been in the past and I have a different haircut. It’s the first time I’ve been on a show that I’m not producing and didn’t put together. I’m just a cast member. It’s their house and I’m just really honored to be invited in. It’s fun for me. It’s different in every way possible, but it’s really great.
You brought some great comedy to Hot in Cleveland. Does Kate bring levity to the team?
She does. She has a really fun sense of humor. She’s very sarcastic, and sometimes makes a joke when it’s inappropriate to make a joke. She loves to have zingers with the bad guy, like land something right as she’s leaving the room. It’s a fun part to her. I was really excited that Erica let me bring a sense of humor into this world.

Jennifer Love Hewitt stopped by E! News to chat with Giuliana Rancic and Terrence J. about her new baby girl Autumn and to show off her new maternity line called “L By Jennifer Love Hewitt.” To view the full 4-minute interview, you can check it out here. Enjoy!
Jennifer Love Hewitt loves being a mom!
Autumn’s mommy stopped by E! News and couldn’t help but gush about motherhood. “I just feel like my heart expanded quadruple and every time I look at her, I just melt. It’s great. And I get no sleep which is also fun,” she tells us.
Husband Brian Hallisay seems to be getting the hang of fatherhood, too. “He’s great, he handles it great. He looks at me sometimes like I’m a crazy person, especially right in the beginning when we got home with her, he was like, ‘You look a little crazy.’ I’m like, ‘All right, we’ll talk about it later,’ ” JLH joked.
Along with expanding her heart, going through pregnancy and having her first child inspired the actress to launch a maternity clothing line!
“Well for me it’s a time in your life when you want to feel really beautiful and it’s a struggle sometimes because you’re expanding and you’re changing and your hormones are all over the place,” the star says of her Pea in the Pod line L by Jennifer Love Hewitt, “so comfort was a big thing for me, and I really wanted to—as a woman—make other women feel beautiful and special in their clothes.”

Jennifer Love Hewitt is pulling out all of the stops to take care of her number-one client, her unborn baby, who will be debuting in December 2013. The Client List star is having her first child with her co-star and fiancé, Brian Hallisay, and is also the face for the new Pampers campaign, Love, Sleep & Play. As Hewitt excitedly heads into the home stretch of her pregnancy, she can’t stop gushing about her baby — and her love for Parents magazine! She’s ready to play mom to her party of three and do all of the cute and mushy things that come with the job.
Congratulations on your pregnancy. How are you feeling?
I’m doing pretty good. I’m definitely feeling like I’m going into my third trimester, whatever that feeling may be. It recently hit me that I have a baby in there. (Points to her stomach.)
Now that you’re nearing the end of your pregnancy, describe the differences between the three trimesters.
The first trimester came with a lot of worry and questions. Since I’ve never done this before, I was thinking, “Am I supposed to feel this thing right here? Am I supposed to be feeling this sick?” Also in the first trimester, there’s not a lot to see. If you saw me, I looked like I ate a big lunch. The second trimester was like, “Oh, my God, I got my energy back!” I couldn’t wait to do a million things, including cleaning my house. As for the third trimester, it has hit me that this is almost over, so I really want to enjoy this because it went by so fast.
Fast but exciting?
So exciting. I can’t believe I’m going to meet this little human soon. It’s all so wonderful and great.
Have you had any funny or strangely odd cravings?
[My love for] the food that I’ve always loved has heightened. Mexican has always been my favorite and now I can eat it every day. I’m also a big avocado and strawberry person. I have to have them all of the time. I was never a cake person, and now I eat little pieces of it at a time.
Why is being pregnant such a special time for you?
It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and something I’ve waited a long time for. I feel lucky that I got to do it at this special time. For me, it’s particularly special because I lost my mom a year and a half ago, and she was my best friend. I’ve always wanted to be a mom because I want to give a kid all of the magical gifts my mom gave to me, such as love and friendship. She and I had this incredible connection that was so unbelievable. I honestly feel that this happening was a gift from her to me. I feel like I can begin moving out of my grieving and mourning period and honor what she gave to me. It has been a hurtful joy. That’s what makes this time so special to me.
Take me back to when you felt the baby move for the first time.
The baby is kicking like crazy while we’re doing this interview (laughs). I’ve never done an interview where someone is punching and kicking me from the inside. I started feeling the flutters a month and a half ago. The kicking I was just talking about is new. It started a few weeks ago, and it’s so crazy how much I love it.
Do you say something to the baby when he or she kicks?
As soon as the baby starts kicking, I touch my stomach and say, “There you are.” (laughs)
Has Brian felt the baby kick?
Yes. He just started to feel the baby kick, and he got so excited. Now that the baby is really moving, everyone can feel it and be involved, which is really nice.
What books or websites have you read to help guide you through these exciting nine months?
I’m not just saying this because we’re doing this interview, but Parents has been my go-to resource. It’s advice from other people, which I really like. Some of the typical books everyone reads are a little scary to me.
Some people play music or talk to the belly as a way to bond with the baby. What have you and Brian been doing?
I’ve been playing hip-hop music because I love hip-hop and I love to dance. I’m trying to make sure that the baby will be a dancer. We’ve been playing a lot of Jay-Z because [his music] has a good beat and bass. We want the baby to feel the good vibes.
Have you bought anything for the baby and, if so, what are your favorite products?
I’ve been using Mustela products for myself. They have a leg [comforting] cream that I use at night, plus a body lotion that I love. As for the baby, I bought Bellybuds; they’re headphones I put on my belly so the baby can hear the music.
Do you know how to change a diaper?
I do. I’ve been practicing with the Pampers Swaddlers because that’s what the baby will be wearing.
Are you ready to become sleep-deprived and play a lot of Sesame Street-type games?
I am. I’m ready to give a lot of love, lose some sleep, and play all day long.
Taking a turn behind the camera for the season finale, Jennifer Love Hewitt will direct the upcoming two-hour episode of “The Client List.”
Speaking about her new role to Entertainment Tonight, the 34-year-old actress shared, “[I’m] bossy, I talk a lot. …. I’m always the one yelling, ‘Let’s go!, Hey!, Are we ready?, Guys?, How’s it going?’ I try to give as much positive reinforcement as well. But yeah, I’m definitely wordy as a director I think. Someone told me I direct with testosterone, which I’m not really sure what that means, but I’m gonna take that as a compliment. I think that means I have cojones when I direct, which is nice.”
As for the season two ending, the “Heartbreakers” star reveals, “What isn’t going on in the season finale?… My husband’s back, my kids are happy, Evan has a girlfriend, Riley and Evan are still not kind of sure how to sort of deal with how they felt about each other and what’s going on. … There will absolutely be drama. There will absolutely be a question mark on it. There will absolutely be hot and steamy things that you will not be expecting this season from Kyle and Riley, and Evan and Riley, and when we end the season nothing will be as it was.”
On a different note, Jennifer confirmed that her style icon is another Jennifer – Ms. Lopez, that is. Gushing about the lovely Latina, Ms. Hewitt told ET, “Yes, I love her! I just think she always looks great and we have similar shapes in that we’re curvy and sort of similar skin tone stuff so if I see her in something, I sort of go out and find my own sort of similar vibe and it tends to look good. I just always think she looks fabulous…and she’s JLo and I’m J-Love.”
“Client List” star Jennifer Love Hewitt will grace the June cover of Women’s Running magazine.
During her cover shoot, the actress talked about her fitness regimen and what to expect in the upcoming episodes of her show.
Check it out!
Hey everybody! Jennifer stopped by “Conan” on May 14th to promote “The Client List.” You can check out 2 clips from the interview below. In the first clip, Jennifer invites Conan to get a face-up massage on her show. It’s all acting, we’re sure. Once I get the video archive open, you will be able to view the full interview. Enjoy the clips and keep checking back for HD screen captures, which shall be up in a little bit.
